This week I received a real treat in my mailbox - a letter from one of our relatives, Inez Johnson Waller, who was born August 3, 1909 - YES, that makes her 100. Ina B. gave her my name and contact information. Ina's daughter, Paula lives about an hour drive away from her. She currently resides at Green Ridge Gilliland Manor 210 Big Spring Road # 109 Newville, PA 17241. She lived in Asheville for 72 years, her husband passed in 1985 and she moved to Carlisle in 2001 to be near Nancy.
Jesse Taylor Johnson was her grandfather (married Louise Jane Carter) . Son William Hampton Johnson was her father - he married Alice Melvin in 1906. Sallie Sarah (Johnson) Perrett who was my great grandmother was Jesse Taylor Johnson's sister.
Inez was looking for pictures of her grandfather's siblings and I do have a few shots, plus information from the family tree, so I've printed off the information and am sending to her today. Inez tells me she had only two sisters, neither of whom never married. One sister, Jewel, and Inez were born in Gibsonville and lived in Greensboro most of the time. Inez's parents are buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery (Snow Camp, but a Liberty address). Inez used to go to the Johnson reunions and she remembers Sarah McPherson from Snow Camp who took her to visit some of the cousins on her father's side. She remembers visiting Flossie (Moon) Bare also.
I think it is wonderful that she has made contact and if you are reading this blog, I encourage you to write to her. She's a remarkable lady. BLESSINGS INEZ!!

Thomas McBane June Carol Mc Bane Lena Moon - Black & White Memories

It has snowed here twice in the past week, so I've been into the old folders that mom had with black and white negatives. You can scan and invert the photo and actually get a pretty good shot of things.
This is Lena Moon - Thomas McBane and June Carol McBane. A shot of Thomas on the bike and Lena Moon on the porch waving. Thomas and June Carol from a front view.
Thomas passed recently - and I know there was a reunion in heaven. Whisper a prayer for his wife, Sugar and his boys, Tommy and Richard. Rest in Peace, Thomas!

Moon Perrett Reunion July 15 1995 Candid Shots

The 1995 reunion was the first one that I planned - in honor of my mother's birthday on July 16th . Looking back, it seems like just yesterday, but by the time July rolls around - it has been 15 years......
Look closely some of you younger Moon-Perretts - you were just a kid.... and those of you my age, well we haven't changed a bit have we.
5 - 10 - 12 - 15 The Remaining Children
There are four infant deaths recorded in the family record for Achsa Beatrice Perrett and Ed Moon, All boys according to what Danny Moon told me at the last reunion. One of the infants I had a name for, but not the remaining three:
5 - Baby Boy Infant lived 9 days
10 - Walter - infant death
12 - Baby Boy - infant death
15 - Baby Boy - infant death
One can only imagine how quickly 15 pregnancies would deplete the nutrients a woman needs - during a time when they didn't have prenatal vitamins or iron pills or Boost or other vitamin drinks. Remember how tired you were caring for one infant - then think about being pregnant or caring for small children from 9 months before the birth of Penie on April 17, 1896 until the birth of child 15 - Baby Boy Infant Death sometime after Wade was born (Jan 5 - 1921). That by any measure is a lot of stress on the body, mind and soul!
Rest in Peace - Achsa!

11 - James "Jim" Delacy Moon

James "Jim" Delacy Moon was the eleventh child born to Ed Moon & Achsa Beatrice Perrett on September 10, 1915 in Snow Camp, NC. He died May 6, 1974 in Orlando Florida at the age of 58.
Jim first married Mabel St. Clair and later, Alma Fullington. He lived in Orlando Florida during his later years (this is hard to say - he was a year younger than I am now when he passed). The thing I remember most about Jim and Alma was they always had a dog in tow. When I was about 9, our family along with Aunt Lena and Uncle Clyde traveled to see them in Florida on Christmas Day - what were they thinking ---- hours on the road and no bathrooms or eating places open. I've never been back to Florida since that trip.
Jim and Alma are buried in Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, NC.
